My Love of Painting

Besides sewing, my other love in life is painting.  When John and I were newly married, he worked long hours and Johnny had started to school.  I had always worked and was at a loss as to what to do with my time.  John really wanted me to stay home because we had moved to a new state and Johnny was just starting school.  So, I said ok - will give it a try.

I have never once wanted to go back to a full time job.  I did my arts and crafts, interior design work, etc. when and if I wanted to.  I have always loved art and received a full scholarship to college in art and also received an offer to go to work in KC for Hallmark cards.  But, I wanted to get married and have a family.

Back to paragraph one.  I took up Tole painting as a hobby and was really hooked.

The above painting of violets is Tole painting.  You have a distinct pattern and the teacher shows you every step of the way to paint the pattern.  I loved it!

We moved to Tulsa and I started taking art lessons and before long, I was teaching beginning Tole classes.

At that point, Tole was done in oils.  It slowly progressed into acrylics.

Then, I decided to take up watercolors - which in my opinion, are the hardest to do.  There's no mistakes in watercolors.  When you put that paint down, it's there to stay.

Watercolors are most generally, so light and airy.

I painted this of Carmine, our red Doberman Pincher for John.

We had two precious granddaughters move in with us and we raised them.  What a blessing they were.  This was their bedroom door (which I've never repainted).  It is the ME Queen of Everything.  It is very hard to get a picture of because our hallway is rather tight.  I'm standing in the bathroom to take this picture.

This is from the end of the hallway.

I've also painted canvas in oils.  But, that is definitely not my cup of tea.  I did one painting for John one year at Christmas and that was the end of canvas painting for me.

So, just a little insight into my world of painting.

Enjoy!

Judy

Some of My Treasures From Branson Trip

You know that wherever I go, I can find vintage items, don't you?  John says I can sniff them out.  LOL  On our little mini vacation last week to Branson, MO, I found a cute little consignment shop with booths and found quite a few goodies.

I found these two enameled pot lids that can be used for kitchen towel holders like Brenda did in Cozy Little House.  These will go on my Etsy shop after my Christmas week.

The cute little spice rack will go in the kitchen someday!

I found three very different egg cups, a doggie figurine, tin molds, s&p shakers in cobalt blue and a stack of little oval plates.

I love this tiny sewing piece.  It has a drawer for thread and one for needles.  And a pincushion attached at the top.

Isn't this crocheted lace gorgeous?  I'm planning on using it on shelving on a vintage piece I'm restoring for the kitchen.  Seven and one half yards!  WOW!

A pretty plate, a little birdhouse and a cute wooden angel.

Some unique ceramic pieces including a small piece to hang on the wall in the kitchen (leaning up against the s&p shakers)  to put your rings in.  My Nana had one of these so this is a special piece to me.

The beautiful salt and pepper shaker on the little tray are cut crystal and you cannot believe how heavy they are.

This dainty little floral teapot will be made into a fountain at some point and time.  Isn't it sweet?

My bargain of the day.  This cute little table for $1.00!!  The top is veneer and is all wavy, but I am going to tear it off and adhere a whole new round table top.  I loved that it had the little metal feet still on it.  A $1.00!!!!

And you can see across the back the pretty linens I found.  A table set with cherries embroidered and two beautiful vintage tablecloths.  Also, there is a stack of hankerchiefs that you can hardly see.  I just can't resist those.

So, enjoy!

Day Six of Hearts Heart Chickies!!

Today's hearts are adorable little chickies!!  I saw these several years ago on (probably) Pinterest and had always wanted to make them.  I made them out of red/white ticking with red felt beaks and combs.

Aren't they cute?

Always can use a red/white garland for Valentines.

And remember my cuckoo clock I painted red?  It fits right in for the month of February.

Enjoy!

Acts of Kindness

"Be kind
for everyone you meet
is fighting a battle
you know nothing about!"

Don't know where this quote came from but I had it written down on a journal and ran across it today.  I thought to myself that I don't know anyone who is not fighting nor has had a major battle in their lives.  Some people prefer to not talk about their battles and some do.  But we all have them.

When I started blogging, I told Brenda that if anyone ever said anything negative about my blog, I would just die!!  I have been very fortunate that it has not happened yet.  I think reading some comments with negative reactions is what made me think about this.

"No act of kindness is ever wasted"

Does it hurt to compliment someone out of the clear blue sky?  You never know what is going on in someone else's life at the time and maybe just a slight word of encouragement would make their day much brighter.

I didn't realize when someone gave me a nice compliment on
something I did on my blog how it would make me feel.  I was so elated and thrilled.  I thought - someone really likes me and my blog.   I have had readers do that and I just want them to know how much it is appreciated.

There are so many acts of kindness that we can do that would probably make someone else feel so much better.  We just don't realize the shape some people's lives are in.  So, I guess the moral of this post is to go out and do an act of kindness for someone else.

Won't you please?

Judy

A Fabulous Day of Shopping!!

The Monday before Christmas while I was at my sister Jeannie's for a few days, I went shopping!  I'm sure that's a shock to you that know me well!

My two nieces Shelli and Kris were here from California and my very dear friend Sabra who lives in Missouri all went with me and we shopped and ate!!
Jeannie had to work that day.

My most favorite place in the world to shop is in Joplin, Missouri and is called Rangeline Antique Mall.
It is located at 3421 N. Range Line Rd and is very easy to find.

I as if I could take some photos and the owners graciously said yes.  So, here we go.....

First of all, how many places do you go that have a real covered wagon in their store?  (See first photo)

Lots of signs.....

vintage kitchen pieces....

Don't you love this banner made out of book pages of music?  What a cute idea!

Bed Spring hangings....

Lots of cute displays... by the way, that little teak children's bench came home with me for the girls and to use in displays....

Salt and pepper shakers anyone?

Another cute vignette....

About anything you would want to find....

Isn't this a darling display!

And here are some of the sweet people wrapping up part of my haul.  They wrap items up so well and I've never had a piece broken when I got home.

If you are ever in the area be sure and stop by.  You will have a ball!

Enjoy!

Judy

Thinking of You

Hi all,

Well as promised, I made a slightly grunged & inked version of the Hydrangea Card the Aldinga Beach girls are doing...

I think I orginally saw these hydrangea flowers make this way on the McGill Flower Punch website. There is a lot of cool videos of paper flower making on this site... but this is my version..The little flowers are stuck on a slice from a small foam ball... very effective but Aussie Post will hate this one.. major lumpy bumpy card...definately a hand delivered card.  And for those that are counting... yes, I have dragged out my trusty Stampin' Up Square Lattice embossing folder yet again... LOVE IT!!!

The Week of Christmas With My Family

My family always has dinner on a day before Christmas in order that each family can spend Christmas Day with their individual family.

We eat at a Mexican restaurant (yeah!) and then went out to my sister's house to visit and talk over all of the past events of the year and the past Christmases.

This is me and my two sisters.  Rita is in the middle and Jeannie is on the right.  I am so grateful for these two girls.  We are very close.  By the way, I'll tell you right off the bat, I am the oldest!  LOL

The twins and Laynee had a ball playing with their little cousins - Mason who is almost a year old and Clara and Dale who are the older ones.  Mason is Jeannie's great grandson and Dale and Clara are Rita's grandchildren.

So, we have a very wonderful day.  It's great that my nieces (Jeannie's) came home from LA and Rita's son Brett and family came from Tennessee.  Jeannie has another daughter who lives close and Rita's daughter lives close also.  So, it's fun to be all together.

Tomorrow, I'll show you what we did after this family event.  I went home with Jeannie to Neosha, MO and we had a few days of more fun.

Enjoy!

One of My Latest Projects!

I found this interesting magazine rack at an Estate Sale for $3.00.  It was all wood and in good shape - just not too pretty.

So, I cleaned it up and lightly sanded it.  I painted it black.

I had this lovely calendar and cut out this floral design from one page of the calendar.  The pink and white background is just a piece of scrapbook paper I put behind it so you could see the cut out when I got thru.

I then used Mod Podge and decoupaged the floral print to the front of the magazine rack.  I think it turned out really pretty.

I put it beside my dark brown leather recliner but it didn't show up at all.  So, I took the finished product out to my "photography studio" and took a picture of it.  I think I need to get either a bird's nest with eggs or one of the green moss bunnies to sit on the little front ledge, don't you?

Enjoy!

Judy
