Faith in Nature

Hi Fellow Crafties,

Its time for cards again... not polymer clay..
These cards are done using the  Stampin' Up! 'Faith in Nature ' Stamp set. Love this one as it was so cool to use the aqua pen with the inks to colour... you don't necessarily have to stay in the lines to make it look great.. the background was grunged up a bit with the leaf stamp and a bit of tearing up and futher sponging...

If you like simple but effective, these are the card to try...

Till next time,
Luv Deb x

My New Flower Garden and I KILLED THE SNAKE!!

I wanted to show you all my new flower bed and despite the fact that I saw a snake and thought I was giving up on any kind of gardening - I was wrong!

I had bought this batch of saucers a few weeks ago and was bound and determined to do this flower bed around my sweet little Weeping Cherry tree by the back door.

Sooooooo, John helped me clear the grass around the edges of the flowers (which I had planted several weeks ago) to make sure the "six foot snake" wasn't still there.  And it wasn't.  So, I proceeded to crawl around on my hands and bad knees and dig the little trench for the saucers to go into.

All went well and I was almost finished and that snake crawled up from the ground.  Needless to say, I moved faster than I have in quite some time.  John said - kill it!  So, I calmly picked up the grass shears and chopped him into a million little pieces.

Now, Brenda has to tell me that usually if there is one snake, there is more.

But, I'm not going to believe that!

My little edging on my flower bed turned out really cute.  I'm very proud that I was so brave and didn't let the snake get the best of me.  (I still don't like getting dirt under my fingernails tho.)

My flowers are doing well - but, who can kill Petunias and Sweet Potato Vine?

The Balloon Flower is still ballooning!!

And, this pot is doing well.  (At least it is still alive.)

My Fairy Garden is growing, but, can anyone tell me why the tall spiky plant is turning white?  I've had that plant in the house for several months and it didn't do that.  Do you think it is allergic to the sun?  And, oh yes, the little yellow gardening boots are wellies - not welties as I thought.

I have been known to make Fairy Gardens in unusual places, like this bird feeder...

a book...

cracked pots...

and even in the side of an old tree that the branch had died and fallen off.

Oh well.....

Enjoy!

Judy

Ignoring The Weather!!

In an effort to completely ignore the freezing rain, sleet and snow outside, I made a Spring wreath.

I had seen this, I believe, on Pinterest but when I went back, I couldn't find the original source again.

It is a frame from Michaels combined with a bird (again from Michaels), a nest with eggs and a banner spelling out Spring.

It was a fun project except it took forever to paint that frame because it was too cold outside to spray paint it.

But, it made me feel better anyway.

Poor Bella has not been well.  She had her teeth cleaned last week and they found she had two bad teeth that were infected.  So, they pulled them.  They put her on an antibiotic for a week and day before yesterday, she started have bad stomach issues.

So, back we went to the Vet's.  He took her off of the meds and put her on a probiotic and it seems to help.  She's started eating a little.

I know so many of us that hurt so bad when our pets are not well.  They are indeed part of our family.

Stay warm and safe.

Judy

PS - I finally found where I saw this wreath.  It was by Leanne @ Organize & Decorate Everything blog.

Thanks for the inspiration Leanne.

Chris Enchanted Shed

Some shed's have interesting stories behind them. Chris' enchanted shed is no exception.

"It started from an old rotted out non insureable lizzard and snake invested junk pile....the shed was falling down.... the back wall we cut out was so rotted when I bought the house the insurance company made me sign over that the shed was not covered under our new home policy. "

Here's a construction photo:

Today:

"All new tin roof....its fully insulated with R19 with vapor barrier...it's also air conditioned to keep the salt air out (we are 4 houses away from the ocean). The air-con protects my Harley! We are on a well so the water softener is in the shed. I plan to expand it a second time and add another 14 by 14 room with workout gym and bathroom. To some people its silly, but I love the "enchanted shed!!! I will be planting some more palm trees and doing landscaping. our lot is 100x250...... after living on a boat full time since 1988 to 2004..I'm a real rookie at gardening. the dog pen in the front will be changed to a little covered patio. "

A well-housed Harley:

Looks like a good second home to me:

Almost Feeling Guilty About Our Weather!

I really do feel guilty about posting about our beautiful weather the last couple of days when so many are having such devastating weather.

Bella has thoroughly been enjoying outside in all of the dried grass.  What possesses dogs to lay on their back and roll in dried grass?  At least, she knows to stop before she comes in the house so that I can brush the dried grass and leaves off of her.

Wanted to show you this "wonky" birdhouse I put up yesterday.

I put it up on the craft storage building.  When I saw it, I thought it was kinda cute and different. And then when I saw it was half price, I liked it even more.

You can see it is made out of an old board (not even painted on the ends), a piece of corrugated metal for the roof, an old can and I think that is a railroad spike.

You can better see the old can from underneath.

It's different, but I think it looks cute on the porch and hopefully, some bird will like it too! I probably need to put some dried grass and/or moss in it to attract the birds.  Think so?

Enjoy!

The Crazy BRONZER Party!

This is a crazy story about a crazy bunch of people who have this crazy party every year.

This party started (we think) 44 years ago with seven couples who all went to church together.

This is Barry - our attorney - (this photo is old) with John.  Barry graduated back long ago from Law School and passed the Bar.  We were having this Christmas party and everyone brought a White Elephant gift - you know the routine.

Well, Barry had received a bottle of very expensive tanning cream for a graduation gift.  It was called Bronzer.  He brought the Bronzer to the party as his gift.

Everyone arrives and puts their gift in a black bag on the front porch - so no one can tell who brought what.  Then, they are all displayed and one by one you pick your choice.  Now, in White Elephant gift exchange, you can take someone else's gift but the third taker is the owner.

To make a long story longer, the Bronzer became the main White Elephant gift and has been making the rounds for approximately 44 years.  Whoever ends up with the Bronzer hosts the party the next year.

The Bronzer has varied thru the ages.  It is quite a feat to see how you can magically bring a gift that no one could possible imagine the Bronzer was in.  John and I hosted the party for many years and then we started the tradition of wherever the Bronzer went was the host for the next year.

One year someone put the Bronzer in a jar of peanut butter and it came with a package of peanut butter cookies.  Great idea - however, the next year as we prepared for the party and pulled the Bronzer out - it had destroyed the plastic bottle and had just dissengrated in the jar.  So, we had to start with a new "Bronzer" that we found at a local junk store.

As you can see, there are some really "white elephant gifts".  Some reappear and some are never seen again.

The fun part of this party is the fact that these seven couples are all the same, original couples we started out with.  We are all still together with the original mate.  Amazing, isn't it?

As of this year (I did not attend as it was just too soon after John's passing) we have lost two of the men.

But, the tradition continues.

Enjoy!

Judy

Nannas Garden

Hi all,
This little card has caused me much grief... not in the actual doing but getting it photographed!!
The first rule in card making... do NOT drink red wine while working... if you have to... place glass on a completely seperate table!
Anyway, this is actually card #2 in my attempt (card #1 is in the bin smelling suspiciously of red grapes... mmmm... I wonder why..) in showing you the cute little hydrangeas made with a heart punch as seen on Valitas Designs and Fresh Folds... She does some amazing work!! You have to check it out!
This is my version... it reminds me of 'Nanna's Garden"... I promised you all more flowers...
Hope you all like it.
Enjoy the day,
... remember no red wine...
 Luv Deb x

Mourning Doves and New Pillows

Oh - Brenda is going to be so proud of me getting a good bird picture!!  We have Mourning Doves nesting in our 50' pine tree in the back yard.  They built their nest amazingly low to the ground.

I have been busy this week sewing on new pillows for my Etsy shop.

The center of this one is an old, vintage tablecloth.  I have to admit tho, that I painted the leaves red.  They were a pale aqua and I wanted red.  So, I just painted them.  Where there's a will, there's a way!

The red and yellow flowered part of this is a vintage tablecloth.

I loved this old embroidered piece of linen with the hand crocheted trim around the edge.  I think it made a pretty pillow.

Beach umbrellas, anyone?

Maybe you prefer lighthouses?

Or gardening?  Do you see the three dimensional ladybug?

These will all be on my Etsy shop www.20northora.etsy.com later this evening.

In the next couple of days, I will be adding some of the vintage Memory Pillows and others for Mother's Day.  I'm only doing 12 of the Memory Pillows, so if you want one for Mother's Day, stay tuned or drop me a line.

Enjoy!
